LAPTOP Vs DESKTOP COMPUTER WHICH IS BETTER?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LAPTOP AND A DESKTOP PC?

Are Laptops computers?, YES. Then let's get to it.

If you have for long wondered how these two differ and how good each is, I have good news for you today. Laptops and desktops are both computers and have been confusing people for a long time to the extent that some don’t thinkthink that laptops are actually computers.

One client asked me this;

Q. If I had a laptop of the same internal properties as the desktop PC e.g. same RAM 8GB, 500GB hard disk space partitioned equally twice, same GPU (graphics processing unit) capacity of 2GB  and both having a Core i5 processor of 5th generation running at a speed of 2.5GHz .He went further and asked, if I ran the same program on both at the same room temperature for the same period of time which one would perform best?

Well !, If we are only considering them for PROFESSIONAL use my only answer would be the one at the end of this article as explained below. I assembled two computers as of the specifications abouve, a laptop and a desktop PC and my conclusion is as below.

So many people would give different answers here and therefor what I did was to carry out the experiment practically and this is what I came up with. In this article I will try not to use any technical terms so that all of us can understand

First of all before we go any further we must know what a laptop is and why it was made that way and what a desktop PC is and why it was made that way and still why their production has not stopped since the invention of the portable laptops.
  • Laptops where made to ease work, in a sense that a person can move with it and work from anywhere they prefer because they are small and they store power unlike the desktop PCs that have to move along with a stable power source. So the laptop scores a point there.
  • Professionally speaking desktops look better in an office working environment as they bring out a sense of maturely and professionalism, laptops look childish on office desks so the desktop score one too.
  • Secondly what kils the efficiency of all computers is heat from the processor and the graphics card, in my honest opinion the desktop PC of same properties pins down the laptop, not because of size but because of how the heat from the processor and the graphics card affects these two differently when in operation.
  • Laptops due to their small body or chassis, heat affects their functionally higher than the desktops and hence their efficiency drops faster compared to the desktop PC of large chassis and large cooling fans. Desktop scores one more.
  •  Naturally desktops are more durable and cheaper compared to laptops, and desktops handle more external peripherals than laptops and there for another point for the desktops.

This means that desktop wins but professionally speaking choice of machine should depend on which job and software the machine is going to run and for which amount of hours in a day and in which environment if you are to get the best out of it.

Laptops in my opinion are not that good for real PROFESSIONAL duties apart from those running weak programs and few hours a day as too much workload in such a tight body my cause overheating, misbehaving and then breakdown.

This is why you find more laptops in repair shops than desktop computers,its because people buy beauty and mistaken it for strenght. laptops are good for but for certain levels of people and work types, BUT desktops are good for ALL (General use) though they are not flexible.
