WHAT TO DO WHEN COCKROACHES ENTER YOUR LAPTOP?

COCKROACHES IN MY LAPTOP, WHAT SHOULD I DO ?

Laptops unlike desktop PCs have a small, dark and fairly warm interior which creates conducive conditions for small insects like cockroaches to hide inside the chassis.

That wouldn't be a problem though since we all know they don’t have teeth strong enough to bite anything on the motherboard, but unfortunately they can damage the laptop in one other way which is even more deadly.

When cockroaches settle inside, they lay eggs and leave a residue liquid. Most cases people mistake this as cockroach urine, but whichever way it’s called the end result is the same,"damage". This liquid will increase to a certain amount and can certainly cause a short circuit in the long run when the laptop is powered on.

Laptops mostly harbor these insects depending on how the user decides to store their laptop after use.

THESE INSECTS CAN MAKE YOUR LAPTOP SMELL AWFUL AND ACTUALLY KILL IT.

THIS FORMULA ALSO APPLIES WHEN THE LAPTOP FAILS TO TURN ON DUE TO INSECTS WETTING THE MOTHERBOARD.

DO NOT TRY THIS.

Do not under any circumstance spray any insecticides in the laptop during or after use.
Do not slap or bang the laptop during or after use with the intention to scare them out.
Do not use a hand drier (hair drier) with an intention of heating the insects from inside
Do not swing the laptop around with an intention of making them drop out.
Do not use a desktop PC air blower on the laptop with an intention of blowing them out.

WHAT TO DO?

After you realize that your laptop has been infested by these disgusting creatures all you have to do is;

  • ·         Disassemble or open the whole base or CPU section of the laptop and put every part alone, if you cannot do this by yourself ask  a technician to do it for you.
  • ·         Remove any polythene covered on the motherboard and deep the motherboard in a basin or bucket half filled with water and a strong wash powder or liquid detergent.

  • ·        Get a brand new toothbrush and soap and gently brush over it like you would clean your teeth, taking care not to break any chip or capacitor on the motherboard.
  • ·         Do not wash anything else apart from the mother board.
  • ·         After washing, deep it in another bucket containing the same quantity but of pure clean water and rinse it well.
  • ·        Swing it a few times in open space to dry it taking care not to knock it on anything as this might break it.

  • ·       Put it out to dry in a position where the sun can reach it well and give it up to TWO hours or more depending on the amount of sun you hung it in.
  • ·        For the plastic case of the laptop and any other component clean with petro or surgical spirit and leave to dry as well.

  • ·       Do not do anything with the keyboard apart from passing a dry tooth brush trough the buttons and you will be good to go.
  • ·       Put everything together and you are all set.

WHAT TO DO NEXT.

After your laptop is back as new, we have to make sure these creatures do not cause this damage again;

STORAGE. After this make sure you start storing your laptop the right way which is to buy  slim laptop bags also known as sleeves and make sure every time you are done using it, you enclose it in there thoroughly well. Leaving your laptop out in the open makes it vulnerable to such and the damage caused can be very expensive to cater for.
TRAVEL. When traveling since our big bags always contain too much stuff some of which could be the carrier of these insects it is very important to first zip your laptop very well in the sleeve bag first, and then place it in the laptop bag and head out for your journey. Do the same when you’re on long visits and in hotels you don’t trust.
